The Island Breeze is the community newspaper for South Padre Island and the Laguna Madre area, and the Coastal Current is the entertainment newsweekly serving the entire lower Rio Grande Valley.
Responsibilities include for both publications content and daily deadlines including news updates to the web, 24/7 if the situation required. Assign reporters, photography duties, photo editing for web and print and pagination of the Island Breeze. The Breeze was a three-times weekly community newspaper uaually 16 pages broadsheet style. Writing in AP style, I would resource press releases for publication and compose original stories. My areas of specialty have become environmental issues, beach erosion v.s developers, sea turtle rescue, ocelot wild territory preservation, water quality/protection of the lower Laguna Madre area, tourism vs. residents issues and border wall issues. I also cover lifestyle issues and tourism events.

Freelance assignments in Dallas included RappCollins Worldwide, primary client: Dell Computer, Catalog Creative/Production team, web design for a local artisan and arts consortium group, digital product photography.
DivaCommunications
As Art Director, I was responsible for creating and producing
all marketing materials for investors and sales teams for
a new marketing concept. A print/web based consumer-oriented
presence for a the Underground Shopper, StarMedia and DivaMedia.
The design staff and I developed a clean navigation interface,
simplified the graphics and site structure and were an integral
part in the design and implementation of rich media advertising.
Worked with a staff of web and interactive artists, copywriters,
and information technology specialists. The Underground Shopper
site coordinated with a monthly magazine distributed in 13
cities and the ads also coordinated with radio mentions as
well as web advertising,
Ribit Productions (1997- 2000)
Art Director, I was responsible for the developing a marketing
presence for several locally based technical
and pharmaceutical
and land
development companies as well as the redesign of Ribit's
own web site. I developed the concept and design of an interactive
CD-ROM (view here) used for presenting our talents, which combined
with the new site won the 1999 Texas
Interactive Media Award for marketing. We also produced
kiosk and sales presentations for top corporations such as
Fujitsu, Nortel, Ericsson. There was also the opportunity
to create a pro
bono site for cancer awareness. I managed a staff of 3,
plus freelance copywriters and programmers. I was also responsible
for assisting in company presentations to prespective clients
and developing project cost bids and timelines, then maintaining

Freelance Design (ongoing clients)
Design and production of a variety of corporate tradeshow
booths, presentation and sales materials for ICL Fujitsu,
special event invitations for the Dallas Cowboys, direct mail,
newsletters and product catalogs.
Lauren Publications (1994-1996)
Art director for a monthly family publication, Dallas Child, managing all editorial design and page layout, display ad design and production. My initial assignment was the redesign of the magazine. Photo art direction for feature articles and fashion spreads. Managed a staff of 5 production artists under tight deadlines.
Dallas Convention & Visitors Bureau (1991-1994)
Art director, responsible for all marketing tools and visitor
information for the city of Dallas. Annual reports, sales
materials, quarterly calendar of city events, street banners
and t-shirts. Awards of Excellence from the Printing Industries
Association of Texas and the Texas Association of CVBs.
Ventura County & Coast Reporter (1989-1991) Art director for all aspects of an alternative newsweekly with a staff of 3 production artists. Editorial layout, display ads, promotional materials, and some b/w photography including the covers. Absolute deadlines were part of the weekly experience. Ventura, California
Horchow Collection (1978-1988)
Catalog production and design, and encompassing all phases
of production of multiple national catalogs per year. I managed
a staff of 8, coordinated catalog scheduling, type spec and
continuity of page layouts were part of the job description.
Effective mangement created low staff turnover and I also
scheduled and maintained a group of freelance production artists.
Freelance Design (1975-1978)
I enjoyed several years of design and production work for
agencies such as Pirtle Design, Tracy-Locke, The Richards
Group, Dennard Creative and Sibley-Peteet.
